This did not come as a surprise to me. Sako has been experimenting with various designs. These long picattinny rails and short barrels are part of the experiment. Sako has customers who have demanded these changes. The rumor also goes that part of these models have been designed to shoot 300grain bullets, so I assume that 1/10" twist will be used in these rifles. At their experiments Sako was able to achieve 900m/s velocity from a  20"(510mm) barrel with B408(250grs), by using n500 series gunpowder. It is however obvious that part of the powder does not burn in the barrel and the pressure must have been over the CIP  limits. The accuracy was recorded to be better than with a long barrel due the stiffer barrel design.



These short barrel test have been done to both 308win and 338LM.(I do not know that any test would have been done to 300WM)

Ase ei kyllä haiskahda Sakon tekemältä.

Kuvan perusteella TRG:n omaa bipodia ei voi käyttää, kallistusvarat ainakin menee kaikki jos saisikin survottua paikoilleen.

Harris tuommoisenaan ei tosiaankaan toimi hiekassa- värityksestäkin voi päätellä että kampe on pitänyt saada näytille äkkiä.

Kiikarikin on aivan järkyttävän korkealla. Komppi/vaimentimen kiinnityskin näyttää jotenkin tutulta, en vaan saa päähäni että mistä.

Kuvien tiiraaminen suurennuslasilla kuitenkin paljastaa epäselvän stanssauksen, kierre on tuumainen (?/? - 24 TPI).

Kieltämättä vähän aikaa vaatii totuttelua tuo ulkonäkö. 20 tuuman piipasta 900m/s vaatii N570:llä noin 5300bar max paineet (CIP max 4200).

Maksimipaineet. Ja ylikin. On tossa se hyvä että ei tarvii enää TRGn bipodia kun harris on otettu käyttöön ja kiskoon saa suoraan pikatinnymukitelineen.

I'm reading here Sniperworx e-journal and Michael Haugen from Remington's international military and law enforcement division says:

It was around this time that during a conversation with Todd Hodnett that the subject of a 19 or 20 inch barrel came up. He informed me that he had cut one down and was seeing some impressive accuracy with it. After some thought we did the same nd began testing. Much to our amazement, we discovered that a 19 inch 338 LM was exceptionally accurate at extended ranges and with suppressor was within 30 FPS of a unsuppressed 27 inch gun.

As our engineers began their testing, we received some infortaion suggesting that our action was not strong enough to handle the 338LM cartrige. Therefore, we put a 175,000-PSI test round in the gun and fire it. This is about 10 times what any SAAMI or CIP round would deliver and results were absolutely no damage of any kind.! We were very impressed and this answered all of the naysayers who were commenting that since we had lost the "3 rings of steel" that the action would come apart.

As our testing wrapped up haing tested many different products and accessories, we arrived at 4 models; the M24A3AI, M24A3HS, 40XS and 700MLR. All of these rifles share the same technology as it relates to the receiver and bolt. To date they have all received significant amount of interest within the US and internationally.

Kyllähän niitä kaiken maailman kokeiluja tehdään. TRG-42:stakin eräs taho teki oman modifikaation jossa on 5R rihlattu 22" piippu, joka on piipun suulta 24,5mm. Kyseessä siis on customi eikä tehdasase. Tuolla vekottimella ammuttiin kuulemma menestyksellisesti 2000m asti.



Kuitenkin terve järki sanoo, että kaikki ruuti ei tuolloin pala piipussa ja että ase on pirun painava mittaansa nähden.
