Based on some ads I saw online, i ordered a cheap chinese PRS scope, Discovery Opt 5-30x56 FFP, Mil-Rad.  $259 + $39 for the rings plus shipping.

I sighted it in today at 100yds.  Parallax dial graduation was spot on at 100yds.  Turrets feel solid with nice clicks.

I shot a box test where I aimed at the bull but adjusted the scope between every shot, 22 click, or about 20cm square.  Pictures show the shot numbers.  15 shots in total, 3 in each target.

I then shot 5 more.  The load is SMK168, GGG Nato, WLR-M, 41.5gns Varget, 2.82" COAL, about 2600fps, SD 13fps.

How is the optics quality, can you spot .30 holes at 200m on white paper? How about 300m?

I will not be going to 200 or 300 in a while.

Image clarity looked fine but I have no top quality scopes to compare to.  I could clearly read the phone number in the top right of the target at 30x.

I will locate and print some kind of a vision test image and test the scope with it at 100 so you can compare to your scope.

I wondering Discovery and buy 5-40×56, 6-36x56 and 5-25×56 modells in this year. I buy also 6-36x56 Zeiss S3 in last year and my opinion is, that is not 4-6 x better what is price in here. So near quality have is and you get scope in every cents. Niw I see gen3 is coming in market ( 5-40× example).

Biggest minus what Discovery optics scope have, is weight and size. That's are very big and heavy. Also 35mm tube diameter is not typical, but I get same price mounts in package and found also used Sphur mount.

I have older chinese Vector scope that has trouble with bullet holes at 200M when conditions are not the best, with my Steiner I can spot .30 bullet holes at 300M on a clear and mirage free day. Both at 24 magnification.

I tested scope resolution with a vision test chart at 100yds.  For reference, row 5 letters measured 5.0mm tall.

At 30x I could read row 5 without trouble.  I could read row 6 but had some trouble with Os or Ds.  Row 7 was difficult but I could read maybe 3 out of 4 letters.  Row 8 I really could not read.

The test image can be found in the Google shared folder below if you want to try.

Seeing holes here at 300 it all about mirage and quality of seeing.  Even large spotting scopes struggle seeing 30cal holes in typical match conditions.

I did this test late in the evening.  It was 85F and very humid.  Dark clouds, poor light.  When I took my rifle out of the case, it immediately got wet, covered in dew from the humid air, including the scope optics.

Row 5 measures 5mm.

It goes with everything in life, you never get double the performance for double the money, and as money goes up the relative performance per dollar goes down in a hurry. The caveat is that for example hunting, if you cannot make out the animal with the cheap scope or need to leave early in the evening due to not enough light transmission, the more expensive scope that allowes you to execute the task becomes priceless.
